Responsible AI Principles
Kempian's AI philosophy in plain language — no legal or technical detail.
Kempian uses AI to help people hire, and to help people get hired. That's a big responsibility, and we think our approach to it should be as easy to understand as the product itself. These are the principles that guide how we build.
Humans Make Decisions
Hiring affects someone's livelihood. That decision should always be made by a person, not a system. On Kempian, a recruiter or employer makes every call — who to contact, who to interview, who to hire. AI never does.
AI Assists People
Kempian's AI does the parts that are tedious or slow for a human to do at scale: reading hundreds of resumes, spotting relevant experience, drafting a first version of a job post. It hands that work to a person as a starting point, not a finished answer.
Transparency
You should always know when you're looking at something AI produced. Match scores, summaries, and generated text are labeled as AI output on Kempian, not presented as if a person wrote or decided them.
Explainability
A score without a reason isn't useful — it's just a number to trust or ignore. Every match on Kempian comes with a plain-language explanation of why: what lined up with the role, and what's missing. Recruiters can see the reasoning, not just the result.
Privacy by Design
Kempian doesn't expose a candidate's personal information by default. Contact details stay hidden until a candidate takes an action that shares them — accepting a connection, responding to outreach, or registering with visibility on. Privacy isn't a setting you have to find. It's the starting point.
Candidate Control
Your data, your call. Candidates decide who can reach them, what those people can see, and when to change their minds. Every one of those choices is yours to make and yours to undo.
Accountability
Kempian builds the AI. Kempian stands behind what it does. We don't point to a model provider or a third-party tool when something goes wrong — responsibility for how AI is used on our platform stays with us.
Continuous Improvement
AI systems get better with scrutiny, not without it. We test our models for accuracy and fairness on an ongoing basis, and we treat every finding — good or bad — as an input to the next version, not a one-time checkbox.
What This Looks Like in Practice
These aren't abstractions. They show up in specific, concrete parts of the product:
- A recruiter sees *why* a candidate matched, not just a score.
- A candidate's phone number stays hidden until they choose to share it.
- Every AI-assisted profile update can be reviewed and corrected.
- Recruiters can override any AI recommendation, always.
- Candidates can see their own history of who accessed their data and when.
